Candidate for Richmond
I live on Penthorpe Close in Intake and work
as an administrator at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. I stood as
a Green Party candidate in the council elections in 2002 and 2003
in Intake ward and in 2004, 2006 and 2007 in the new ward of Richmond.
I am the Election Agent and Secretary for Sheffield Green Party.
I am also the Co-Ordinator of the Yorkshire & the Humber Green
Party.
I was pleased to be involved in the successful
campaign to protect Gleadless Common, part of the old Intake ward.
Those campaigners have needed to continue their work to monitor
the excesses of the developers of the new housing estate. Local
people know what is best for their communities and I support independent
community organisations who seek to improve our neighbourhoods.
In too many cases decisions on local projects and funding ignore
the views of local people in favour of big business and the developers
who have too much power.
Our local communities are under threat and I
support the "Living Streets" campaign for residential
areas where residents can reach a post office, chemist, bank and
a food shop within a 15 minute walk of where they live. The Green
council group are working hard in this area. They have just achieved
the successful inclusion of funding for 10 extra pedestrian crossings
in the council budget for 2008/9.
