While the other political parties claim to be concerned about climate change, only the Green Party’s policies genuinely address it.

We want better housing and public transport, a stronger
and more self sufficient local economy, better local services, more locally grown food and less waste. These would improve our quality of life and preserve our environment for the future.

Strong pressure from our Green councillors has forced
Sheffield council to agree to a much tougher target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The Green Party argues for real emphasis on the ‘4
Rs’ for materials and packaging Reduce, Re use,
Repair and Recycle. Last summer Rob organised a
collection of unwanted items from Broomhill homes to go to charity rather than ending up on streets or in bins.

The Real Choice in Broomhill

Rob is 26 and has lived in the local area for 9 years. He is a Sheffield University graduate and now runs his own sustainable kitchen company. He has been the Green Party candidate for Broomhill since 2004 and also
stood in the 2005 General Election in Hallam.

Rob’s share of the Broomhill vote has nearly doubled in the past 3 years. He came a clear second last year, well ahead of both Labour and Conservative candidates. Rob says, “We need more green minded and principled individuals on Sheffield Council, who represent local people effectively.”

  • Better local communities and transport
  • Better housing and lower energy bills
  • Action to address climate change
  • Better schools, hospitals and public services
A Green Vote Means Progress

Over the past year, Rob has worked hard for local people. For example, he has:

  • Worked with a local residents group to organise a clean up of a wooded area in Upperthorpe
  • Supported the recent extension of the Broomhill Conservation Area, which will help to safeguard the locality
  • Helped to organise a successful campaign to abolish plastic bags at Sheffield University Students’ Union
  • Pressed the Council to ensure that local parking schemes genuinely reflect the needs of residents and businesses
  • Urged local MPs to argue for tougher climate change legislation.
Better local communities and transport

Rob Cole believes this area should provide a high quality of life for everyone residents, students and businesses. He has argued for support for local shops and firms, which should benefit the community. He will continue to work with others on action needed to address noise, graffiti and litter in Broomhill.

The Green Party argues that traffic reduction is the only long term solution to traffic jams, air pollution and road danger in Broomhill. We've fought to protect local services, such as schools and post offices, that reduce our need to travel. Greens have campaigned for better public transport, pedestrian facilities and cycle routes.

We support bus regulation to improve bus services. We are the only party to oppose road widening schemes in the city; they don’t reduce traffic problems in the long run.

Better housing and lower energy bills

The Green Party believes everyone has the right to adequate housing. We would invest in better insulation and green energy. This would create
jobs and boost the local economy, as well as combating climate change and improving energy security.

We want better regulation of private landlords and a register of houses in multiple occupation (HMOs). Rob is currently campaigning for a sustainable housing development on the Tapton Hall/Secret Garden site, with a significant proportion of affordable family housing and retention of the green space.

Vote Green

Last year Rob Cole came a very strong second to the Lib Dems, a long way
ahead of other candidates

He is serious about representing local people and maintaining local communities

He would be a fresh voice on the Council, representing young and old, students and local residents.
