Candidate for Beighton
I am 60, divorced with two adult children and
have lived in Sheffield for 6 years I have also lived in Scotland,
Wales and Australia. I have a degree in agricultural botany and
I have been working with Beighton Environment Group and Sheffield
City Council assisting and advising in the renovation and replanting
of the old orchard near Robin Lane. I have played a major part in
Apple Day at the orchard in the last 4 years.
I run a small business selling fruit trees, giving
talks and working with community groups. In the past I have worked
in local government, in education and in the voluntary sector for
both small and large charities.
I grow much of own fruit and vegetables
and try to do this in an environmentally friendly way. My business
promotes home grown healthy food too. I try to support local businesses
and shop locally I cycle locally whenever I can and I run a car
with very low CO2 emissions. I recycle just about everything that
I can and I use wood reclaimed out of skips for most construction.
I have made considerable efforts to make our office staff aware
of green issues and I promote recycling there too. I collect organic
matter from my neighbours and make compost from it. I believe that
my actions will help us combat climate change and am pushing for
more local action and support from Sheffield City Council.
