Greens score Hat trick in Central
ward
2nd May
The Green Party is today celebrating the election
of their third Councillor, RobMurphy, in Central Ward, further
strengthening their position in Sheffield Town Hall. Coun Murphy
beat his nearest rival, Mohammad Maroof, by 48 votes despite a
big push by Labour.
Cllr Murphy said, Now we can carry on
fighting for the things people in the
city want, like decent, affordable housing, better public transport,
local jobs
that stay in Sheffield and no privatisation of schools and hospitals.
The three Green councillors who now hold Central ward will work
hard for all the people who live there, whoever they voted for,
and we will be a strong Green voice for the city as a whole.
"We have achieved this by simply telling
people the truth about what Sheffields Green Councillors
have already done for them and what we plan to do in the future.
We have tried to contact every household in the ward and spoken
on the doorstep to thousands of people. Our support comes from
every section of society and every part of the ward".
Coun Creasy, the leader of the Green group
on the Council, added, "Over the last few years we have made
steady progress and achieved real, practical benefits for the
people of Sheffield. We have now got the hat trick in Central
and can start to build from this strong base. We have an important
role as the third group on the Council and will continue to vote
on an issue by issue basis."
