Greens boost recycling in Central
Ward
6th April 2008
Sheffield Green Party have secured a better
recycling service in Central
ward, where half a dozen new bring banks for glass, cans and tins
are to be installed. Central Ward candidate Rob Murphy said, Green
Councillors have worked with local people to find convenient places
for bring banks in Central ward. Bring banks are good because
there is no need for third wheelie bin or box, meaning less clutter
on the pavements or disturbance to residents when they are collected.
Coun Jillian Creasy added , This pilot
will be funded by the councils
waste management company, Veolia, so there has been no need to
take money from council funds at the expense of other services.
We hope that people make use of the new facilities and that the
pilot will prove worth
extending.
A similar pilot for extra bring banks is running
on Greenland Estate in
Darnall Ward. If the bring banks are well used and recycling rates
go up, the project will be extended to other parts of the ward
and the city.
