Residents say, "Don't sell Baron
Street Garden".
3rd February 2008

Residents living near
Baron Street came out in force on Sunday to show they want to
preserve a small green space near their homes. The garden is a
stones throw from Bramall Lane football ground. Most of
the terraced houses in the area only have concrete yards so this
patch of grass and a few trees are very precious.
Now the site is under threat from a developer
who wants to use it for access to the site behind. Residents fear
that if the Council sells the land it could be built on.
Green Party activist Rob Murphy said, We
alerted residents to the possibility the land could be sold and
they have made it very clear they dont want this to happen.
We hope Sheffield Homes, who maintain it on behalf of the Council,
take note and resist any pressure on them to sell it.
Green Party Cllr Jillian Creasy said, I
was amazed at how many people turned out on a Sunday morning.
People feel very strongly about green spaces, which make a huge
difference to their quality of life and the feel of the local
area.
