Come to the Green Fair to green
up your lifestyle
20th June 2008
Dear Editor
If, like J Curtain and Bryan Miller (Star Letters,
6th June) you were disappointed by the Green City Days at Hillsborough
Park, I recommend you try the Green
Fair at St Mary's Community Centre on Saturday 28th June.
Entrance to the Green Fair is much cheaper, at £1 or 50p
concessions, with under 12s free. It provides reasonably priced
food, much of which is organic, vegetarian or vegan, and all of
it tasty! You wont find big scale fun fair rides powered by diesel
generators belching out fumes and CO2, but there will be loads
of environmentally friendly activities and entertainment for the
kids.
The Green Fair has twice as many stalls as
Green City Days.Organisations like Heeley City Farm and Pedal
Ready come to both events but at the Green Fair you will also
find companies who install heat pumps and solar panels (you can
even learn to install your own!) and help you save water, and
many other stalls where you can learn how to live a greener life.
The Green Fair makes the connections between
what we do as individuals and the wider picture. Many campaigning
and charitable organisations have stalls, including Oxfam, Amnesty
International and Friends of the Earth. Entertainment is provided
by many of Sheffield's up and coming bands, choirs and performers.
Finally, the Green Fair will also provide you
with a programme where you can find details of the organisations
involved when you need them. You're not likely to walk home with
a solar panel under your arm, but hopefully you will find all
the information you need at the fair to green up your lifestyle
and be put in touch with the organisations that will help you
do this.
Yours sincerely
Graham Wroe
