Dear Sir
Your coverage of the Council's post election
Annual General Meeting reported that Green and Conservative abstentions
allowed Labour to stay in control at the Town Hall. We did this
because Labour has the largest number of councillors (41) and
the best chance of forming a stable administration. We will continue
to push them to do more on issues such as public transport, affordable
well-insulated housing and support for local businesses. These
are vital for the wellbeing of the people of Sheffield, as well
as for the environment.
What you did not fully explain is that with
a "hung" council, the smaller parties can combine forces
with the Lib Dems (who have 39
councillors)to outvote Labour at any time. We will continue to
propose positive alternatives and improvements and are willing
to work with the other parties to ensure that there is constructive
opposition in the Town Hall over the coming year.
Yours sincerely
Cllr Jillian Creasy, Green Party
