Green's would make it happen
in council
19th April 2007
Dear Sir,
Anders Hanson (Star
Letters, 18th April), Lib Dem organiser for Hallam, misrepresents
what the Green Party in Sheffield stand for. Our main issues are
the insulation of housing, getting public transport under public
control, supporting local shops and businesses and stopping the
creeping privatisation of schools and hospitals. (Our full manifesto
can be seen at www.sheffieldgreenparty.org.uk/manifesto). We want
to give people a lasting quality of life and to tackle our social
and environmental challenges.
If the people of Sheffield choose to vote for
us then we will be "running the council and making it happen",
and if not we will still be pushing for good decisions for the
long term benefit of Sheffield. We do that through working with
others on a practical, grassroots level, not seeking confrontation
at every turn or toeing a national party line.
It was this kind of co-operation that meant
the insulation scheme initiated by the Kirklees Green Party, and
then supported by the Tories and Lib Dems, was put through. Hopefully
any future administration in Sheffield, Labour, Tory, Lib Dem,
or Green, will be just as responsible.
Yours sincerely
Rob Cole
