Trident

Dear Sir,
The decision to replace Trident nuclear missiles
will disappoint many people in Sheffield. We used to be a member
of Nuclear Free Local Authorities. The Lib Dems withdrew the council
from NFLA and Labour recently rejected a Green Party motion calling
to rejoin. Not a single Sheffield Labour MP voted to scrap Trident
in the recent House of Commons debate.
The Green Party is absolutely opposed to renewing
Trident. Spending billions on a weapon which could never be used
is madness. The biggest threats we face now are from climate change
and terrorist attacks. A nuclear deterrent will not prevent either
of these ; the money would be better spent on projects to create
a more just and sustainable world.
Yours sincerely
Cllr Jillian Creasy,
Sheffield Green Party
